Hughes Cancer Center
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania
Ewing Cole Architects' award-winning healthcare facility features a slender, three-story atrium that frames a garden, admits abundant natural light, and serves as the central circulation space. Within this therapeutic environment, the design team creatively incorporated clear Jali panels in multiple applications—as screens with varying width bands, as welcome desk inserts alongside wood veneer, and as ceiling panels that transition into light diffusers. This versatile material enhances the project's biophilic strategy, creating patterns reminiscent of natural forms that complement garden views and filter daylight throughout the space. The installation team purchased Jali sheets directly and fabricated the material on-site during installation, allowing for precise customization to the unique architectural features. This thoughtful integration of Jali panels contributes significantly to the facility's healing atmosphere, where the continual connection to nature eases patient stress and provides a beautiful setting for care.
