Ripple™ & Motif™

Ripple™ & Motif™ are versatile and uniquely responsive to both user and environment, connecting the two with an unforgettable experience.

Interactive Wall

Interactive Wall

In an elegant specification by Stoiber + Associates, Ripple surrounds the elevators in the lobby at The Optical Society in Washington D.C.. True to the identity and purpose of this 100 year old institution, the panels are composed of a dense, integral network of connected optical channels due to which the material is activated by ambient conditions and the users of the space for an interactive, unforgettable experience. On their own, the material has a soft, reflective quality.

Counter Face

Counter Face

In a design by Nelson and MGE Architects, also a Nelson company, Ripple was specified for an elegant reception desk face to be installed in Pandora Music’s Atlanta office. The piece was precisely fabricated and provided to finish dimensions and condition, with miter edges and folded corners, to fit, like a glove, on the receiving millwork, for easy installation. The smooth surfaces makes the material easy to clean.

Ripple™

Ripple’s™ clever faceted design allows dynamic interactions with its environment and viewers by broadcasting even subtle inputs of light, color, shadow, and movement over the surface while maintaining transparency within a sleek profile.

Motif™

Motif expands design possibilities by offering customizable and interactive engagement of the senses by responding to touch, movement, color, light, and shadow in unexpected ways without the need for power or electronics. While it can be used in diverse settings such as hospitality, healthcare, retail, institutional, education and residential, for counter tops, branding, accents, privacy panels, donor walls and signage, its most notable application is for memorials, where a direct connection with the user can evoke poignant memories.

Resin

Colors are imparted by using colored cladding alone or in combination with Interlayers (films, artwork, iridescent, fabric & wood). Transparent, opaque or mirror colors can be used in combinations, with or without interlayers, to yield perfect matches and complex hues. Since the material is activated by the surrounding colors, it also assumes the colors around it to create coherance.

The lightweight and flexible construction of the material allows complex fabrication and creation of precise curves to suit a myriad of designs.

Core Thickness

The core of the material contains the optically connected facets that are responsible for aesthetics as well as the distinctive interactivity of the material.

When a particular thickness of material is required in a design, we optimize the core for maximum interactivity and aesthetic impact.

The thicker the core, the more imposing the aesthetic.

Double Core

Doubling the core adds depth to the material. Facets seem to float weightlessly in the material as if ready to be activated by ambient conditions of movement, color and light. Once activated, the material broadcasts these inputs over the surface of the material.

Cores can also be doubled to achieve a double sided effect.

Lighting

Direct face-lighting is sufficient for interactive effect. Edge-lighting can achieve interesting effects while mitigating interactivity.

Environmentally friendly and Sustainable

As well as creating innovative, dynamic spaces, light-manipulating materials will not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during their production or their lifecycle, making them safe for use in an interior environment. They are PVC- and formaldehyde-free and contain no chemicals of concern.

Third party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD's), Health Product Declaration (HPD)s as well as recycled content certification is available for our materials.

Options & Custom Services

Options & Custom Services

Custom Colors

In addition to a spectrum of standard colors, custom color matching is available. Introducing interlayers also achieves unique colors and textures.

Wood Interlayer

Mirror like facets reflect the color and grain of real wood interlayers for a stunning effect.

Fabric Interlayer

Color, pattern and weave of fabric is transferred and amplified when used as interlayers.

Custom Pattern

Computational design allows for customization of patterns and their layout in the panel.

2-D Shapes

Precise shapes and letters can be fabricated from materials.

Etching

Etching is another tool for customization of the material for signage, branding and wayfinding designs.

Lighting Solutions

Lighting adds the final finishing touch to a design. It can be provided pre-assembled as part of the solution.

Pattern prominence is proportionate to material thickness

Using the largest possible size of facet for a given material thickness, optimizes the aesthetic of the material and its interactivity.

Double Cores

Doubling the cores doubles up the number of pattern facets. This configuration allows for an imposing double-sided effect that is a good solution for large space defining design elements.
